Calgary's Non-Training, Dog Training | Canine Catalyst

Canine Catalyst is a one-of-a-kind dog training program in Calgary where dogs catalyze their behavior breakthroughs. In a world where dog owners face endless “laundry lists” of behavior problems such as distractibility, excitement, anxiety, fear, reactivity, and aggression, despite the abundance of available training tools and methods, it begs the question: is this simply due to a lack of information or knowledge, or is there something else going on here?

Rather than relying solely on human involvement, Canine Catalyst empowers dogs to direct their learning. This approach is fundamentally different from traditional approaches to training and behavior change. While training and behavior modification is beneficial in certain contexts or stages of the learning process, they can lead to intervention dependence, where the dog and owner rely on ongoing dog training to sustain behavior change over time.

Our Canine-Centric “Emergent Curriculum,” which promotes true agency and autonomy, is like Montessori, but for dogs! This allows dogs to learn how to change their behaviors with their owners’ support and guidance, leading to better long-term outcomes and thriving relationships.

Who is Canine Catalyst in Calgary for?

Canine Catalyst is for dog owners and dog professionals who are open to exploring new possibilities for living with and “training” their dogs. Canine Catalyst is hands (or paws) down, the fastest and most sustainable way to work with dogs that employs what we lovingly refer to as “non-training, training.” The program will benefit virtually every dog and owner, but it will be especially helpful for owners whose dogs are described by labels such as:

  • Anxious
  • Excitable
  • Distractible
  • Leash pullers
